take two

I think that the toughest part of touring a program is keeping it fresh from night to night.  I spend about an hour each night in my hotel room thinking about the music, studying the score, or searching the internet for new inspiration.

Debussy's Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune is a gorgeous, sumptuous work inspired by Mallarmé's poem entitled L'après-midi d'un faune.  When we started working on this transcription a year ago, my French was not as strong; based on my limited understanding of the poem, we created a very dreamy, ethereal interpretation.  Boy howdy, were we wrong:

I guess it's back to the drawing board....

The Best Part

The best part of being on tour is getting the opportunity to meet the wonderful people who are a part of the arts scene in every city -- especially if they make food!  We played tonight for a public chaleureux in Edmundston, New Brunswick, and were treated afterward to a fabulous little party - 20 y.o. port paired with local cheese, tourtière, champagne and strawberries...  It's tough to be away from home, but the sweet and generous receptions we've received so far make it a lot more enjoyable.  I think I speak for both of us when I say that we'd come back to Edmundston any time -- especially if there's salmon mousse involved.

Janelle here, welcoming you to our tour blog.  Think of this as your invitation to get to know the "man behind the curtain".  We're about to embark on our very first tour as a duo, and we'll be using this space to post our musings on our work, our concerts and life on the road.
